Mutiny Product Update — October 2026
New Redfish Monitoring, ConfigVault® Enhancements and Smarter Security Updates
Greater hardware visibility, improved configuration management and more flexible security maintenance.
At Mutiny, we continue to develop new capabilities that help organisations monitor, manage and protect their critical IT infrastructure.
In this edition, we're highlighting three important developments: our new Redfish Monitoring Agent, the continued evolution of ConfigVault®, and enhanced automated upgrade controls designed to help customers keep pace with an increasingly demanding security landscape.
Together, these developments extend Mutiny's monitoring capabilities while improving operational resilience, security and ease of management.
Introducing the Redfish Monitoring Agent
Mutiny now includes a new Redfish Monitoring Agent, providing modern, standards-based hardware monitoring for enterprise servers and infrastructure devices.
Redfish is an industry-standard management interface developed by the DMTF, allowing hardware management controllers to expose detailed system information through secure HTTPS-based APIs.
The new agent provides visibility into a range of hardware conditions, depending on the capabilities of the device:
-
System health — Overall hardware status and critical conditions.
-
Power supplies — Operational status and redundancy.
-
Cooling and temperature — Fan operation and thermal conditions.
-
Storage health — Physical disks, RAID arrays and storage controllers.
-
Processor and memory health — Hardware conditions reported by the management controller.
-
Hardware inventory — Chassis information and component details.
Hardware Compatibility
Redfish is supported by several leading enterprise server manufacturers, including Dell, HPE and Lenovo.
Mutiny's development and testing have included Dell iDRAC and Lenovo XClarity controllers, with compatibility continuing to expand.
As implementations vary between manufacturers and models, customers are encouraged to contact Mutiny Support to confirm compatibility with their hardware.
Why Redfish?
Redfish complements traditional SNMP monitoring by providing access to detailed hardware health information that may otherwise require separate manufacturer-specific management tools.
By integrating this information directly into Mutiny, administrators can monitor hardware health alongside their existing network, infrastructure and application monitoring.
Redfish monitoring is available in Mutiny V8.3 and later.
ConfigVault® — Configuration Backup, Change Detection and Recovery
Network device configurations are critical to the operation of any IT environment.
A failed switch, an incorrect configuration change or an unexpected device replacement can result in significant disruption if a reliable configuration backup is not available.
Mutiny ConfigVault® addresses this challenge by providing integrated configuration backup and change management within the Mutiny platform.
Introduced in Version 8.1, ConfigVault® has continued to evolve, with additional device support and new alerting capabilities.
Automated Configuration Backups
ConfigVault® connects to supported network devices and retrieves their configurations automatically on a scheduled basis or on demand.
Administrators can:
-
Automate backups — Reduce the need for manual configuration collection.
-
Maintain configuration history — Retain previous versions for auditing and troubleshooting.
-
Identify configuration changes — See when a device configuration has changed.
-
Download previous configurations — Retrieve earlier configurations when required.
-
Improve disaster recovery — Maintain an accessible archive to assist with device replacement or recovery.
New: Alerting on Configuration Changes
One of the latest enhancements to ConfigVault® is the ability to raise a Warning or Critical status when a device configuration changes.
This allows configuration changes to become part of the normal Mutiny monitoring and alerting workflow.
For example, an unexpected change to a critical network switch can now trigger a status change, bringing the issue to the attention of your operations team.
This is particularly useful for identifying unplanned configuration changes and supporting security and compliance processes.
Secure Configuration Storage
ConfigVault® uses Mutiny's integrated StorageVault security architecture to protect sensitive credentials and configuration data.
Configuration backups are encrypted at rest, with configurable security modes allowing organisations to balance operational convenience with their security requirements.
Because ConfigVault® is integrated into Mutiny, there is no requirement to deploy and maintain a separate configuration backup server.
Monitoring and Configuration Management Together
When a device develops a problem, knowing that its status has changed is important. Knowing whether its configuration has recently changed can be equally valuable.
By combining monitoring, alerting, topology information and configuration history, Mutiny helps administrators investigate issues more efficiently and recover from configuration-related failures.
Every licensed Mutiny system includes five ConfigVault® device licences at no additional cost, allowing customers to explore configuration backup and change monitoring on their own infrastructure. Additional ConfigVault® licences are available for organisations wishing to extend coverage across more devices.

Security Updates & Smarter Upgrade Management
Keeping Pace with AI-Assisted Vulnerability Discovery
The software security landscape is changing rapidly.
Advances in AI-assisted vulnerability research, including developments such as Anthropic's Mythos, are making it increasingly possible to identify complex software vulnerabilities at a pace that was previously difficult to achieve.
While this is a positive development for software security, it also places increasing pressure on vendors to develop and distribute patches quickly, and on organisations to deploy those updates without unnecessary delay.
The pace of change is particularly noticeable in operating system maintenance.
During 2026, the kernel package release number used by Mutiny's underlying AlmaLinux operating system has increased by more than 76 revisions.
Although not every revision represents a security vulnerability, this illustrates the frequency of software maintenance that infrastructure teams must now manage.
Introducing Independent Upgrade Controls
To help customers manage this changing environment, Mutiny now provides separate automated upgrade controls for the Mutiny application and its underlying operating system.
Customers can independently configure update tiers and automation policies for:
-
Mutiny application updates — New features, application enhancements and fixes.
-
Operating system updates — Security patches, kernel updates and supporting system packages.
For example, organisations can configure Mutiny to install operating system updates automatically while retaining manual approval for application upgrades.
This gives customers greater flexibility to keep their appliances secure without automatically introducing changes to the Mutiny application itself.
Rethinking Change Control
This raises an important question for IT teams:
Should routine security maintenance be subject to the same change-control procedures as major application upgrades?
Formal change control is essential for managing operational risk. However, lengthy approval processes can sometimes delay the deployment of important security patches, leaving systems exposed to vulnerabilities for which fixes are already available.
There is a balance to be struck between maintaining operational stability and responding quickly to emerging security threats.
Mutiny's new independent upgrade controls give customers the flexibility to adopt a more risk-based approach: maintaining formal change control over application upgrades while allowing routine operating system security updates to proceed automatically.
Some updates, particularly kernel changes, may still require restarts or planned maintenance. Organisations should therefore consider their own availability requirements, testing procedures and recovery arrangements.
Good change control should help organisations manage risk, not inadvertently increase it by delaying essential security maintenance.
Bringing It All Together
These three developments demonstrate our continued focus on making Mutiny a more capable, secure and resilient infrastructure monitoring platform.
-
Redfish Monitoring provides deeper visibility into the health of physical infrastructure.
-
ConfigVault® protects critical device configurations and helps identify unexpected changes.
-
Independent Upgrade Controls allow organisations to maintain security updates without sacrificing control over application changes.
Combined with Mutiny's existing SNMP, WinRM, Active IPAM™, topology discovery, API monitoring and alerting capabilities, these additions provide organisations with even greater control over their infrastructure.
Getting Started
All three developments are available in current Mutiny V8 releases.
Existing customers can explore Redfish monitoring on compatible hardware and take advantage of the new independent upgrade controls.
Every licensed Mutiny system includes five free ConfigVault® device licences, so customers can start protecting their device configurations immediately. Additional licences can be purchased as required.
If you would like assistance with Redfish discovery, evaluating ConfigVault® or configuring your automated update policies, our support team will be happy to help.
