The current build version of Mutiny is 4.2-1.05 this can be installed on suitable hardware or as a standalone virtual appliance.
To run this virtual machine you will need to download and install one of our virtual images from our Images directory.
Once you have installed your mutiny appliance, start it up.
Next you will see various start-up messages scrolling past; this is a normal part of the operating system load (about 2 minutes).
Once the appliance is running you will see a screen that looks like figure1
Figure 1
This is a text version of the Web-based maintenance interface.
Click in the console window to activate the controls.
You can use the <tab> key or up/down arrow keys to navigate between fields and submit links.
Log in with the default Username: "admin" and Password: "mutiny". Both fields are case sensitive.
Navigate down and highlight the "[Submit]" button (you will also need to press the <Return> key to action it).
The Maintenance Interface top level menu will load as shown in Figure.2
Figure 2
What you see is a list of the all the Mutiny software packages that are currently installed on the system together with a set of sub-menu options below:
Navigate down to the "Network Settings" sub-menu and press <return>.
From this screen (shown in Figure.3) you can change the default IP addresses assigned to the appliance.
Figure 3.
Using the arrow keys change the values of the interface "eth1" and "Default Gateway" to match those you wish to use on your network. Please note that Mutiny requires a fixed IP address!
Note that we recommend using "eth1" as your monitoring port. This is because we like to reserve eth0 for maintenance purposes and the connection of add-on appliances. This means you will be connecting the port marked "LAN2" on the back of the appliance to your network.
Navigate down to "Apply Network Settings" and press <Return>.
You can now connect the port "LAN2" (physical, "eth1" in the configuration) to one of your network switches via your Cat5 structured cabling. We suggest patching the Mutiny appliance as close to the core of the network as possible to shorten the path to the critical nodes that are to be monitored.
Your Mutiny system should now be accessible from your desktop/laptop.
Using Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 6 or above, browse to the IP address you gave the Mutiny appliance.
Log in with Username "admin" and Password "mutiny".
