Mutiny's New Appliance Platform Gives Critical Network Monitoring A Boost

Network monitoring specialists Mutiny Ltd have launched a brand new Critical Service Monitoring appliance which will provide the perfect platform, and power, for its new 3.5 version software release.

The appliance has been launched to ensure that the company’s newest 3.5 Critical Service Monitoring software – and future software upgrades – function at optimum efficiency.

Key features of the new Mutiny appliance include:

• Sufficient CPU power and memory to monitor over 1,000 devices per minute (on a suitably configured network)
• Data storage for more than 12 months of historical data
• Gigabit NICs to allow rapid data collection and GUI access
• SMS alerting via USB analogue and GPRS modems

The new appliance will become the backbone of the Mutiny product range for many years to come.

Dr Andrew Murray, Chief Technical Officer at Mutiny, says: “This is the most important release of the Mutiny Critical Services Monitoring appliance since its launch in 2002.”

“Our clients are constantly looking for more intelligent hardware and software to become available for network monitoring requirements. We need to be able to give it to them, and this new appliance will make sure that both current, and future, Critical Service Monitoring software releases have the power they need to function efficiently.”

“As more and more companies integrate new devices onto their networks, they are finding the need for monitoring products that deal quickly and efficiently with the ever increasing demand – and problems associated with this. Our new appliance can monitor over 1,000 devices a minute so certainly has the capability to meet customer requirements.”

Another feature of the appliance is the new data storage feature which allows companies to review the previous years data and deal with forthcoming data bottlenecks, seasonal or recurring problems BEFORE they occur.

“Every IT team wants to operate as pro-actively as is possible,” says Andy. “This new storage feature allows them to review and therefore foresee potential seasonal problems. These problems can then be dealt with minimal interruption to staff.”

Notes to editors:

1. Mutiny traces its origins back to the University of Manchester where it was used to monitor services on the SuperJANET network. The company “Mutiny Limited” was spun out in 2001 to commercialise the product, which was formally launched in June 2002 at the Networks Telecom Exhibition. Mutiny’s unique selling point is that it is the only SNMP-based Network-Monitoring appliance, designed with ease-of-use as the most important feature. This means that it can be rapidly deployed on almost all types of network by people who require no specialist training.

3. Current Mutiny clients include: Panasonic Mobile, Red Bull Racing Team, The Football Association, Endsleigh Insurance and Focus DIY to name but a few.
