Endsleigh Insurance
Endsleigh is an independent intermediary specialising in the provision of insurance and financial products for career people. It offers a full and appropriate product range that starts with students and continues through to retirement and beyond.
The company employs over 1000 employees across the UK with its headquarters in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire and is proud to be the first insurance service in the country to gain accreditation from the Chartered Insurance Institute for its sales staff. Endsleigh describe themselves as “lean” with just 45 in the IT department and about a quarter of those involved in troubleshooting so wanted a network monitoring system that was equally efficient and cost effective. CHOOSING THE RIGHT SYSTEM Productivity is a key word when it comes to modern technology. Any new piece of computer hardware or software must play a role in boosting an organisation’s output. Endsleigh did not want a network monitoring system that would bombard them with unnecessary information and they did not want a team of people sitting around whose sole purpose was checking machines every five minutes. What they wanted was a critical device system that would tell them what they needed to know. An easy to use system, with no hidden costs and a quantifiable return on investment. They had tried other, more high profile, solutions but the Mutiny Critical Services Monitor gave them what they wanted. Trevor Jones, Endsleigh Insurance’s Senior Technical Analyst, says: “Networks are so much more reliable these days. We didn’t need to be checking them every five minutes. With Mutiny you assume that the critical services and networks are doing everything they should, the appliance will certainly tell you if they’re not.” According to Trevor, Mutiny answers the important questions like 'Is the server up?' 'Is it functioning properly?' 'Is it running out of space?' “Mutiny will tell you all that without the rest of the garbage you don’t need”, he says. WHAT DOES MUTINY MONITOR AT ENDSLEIGH? - All Endsleigh’s web servers
- Back end servers
- Core switches and routers
- All VOIP servers
BENEFITS The appliance freed up valuable resource time normally allocated to problem solving which allowed the team to take a much more proactive approach to systems development. As a result, Endsleigh is already 25% more efficient because employees are no longer tied up doing things they did before. There is also the “chicken and egg” element of what would have happened if they had not had it in place. Says Trevor Jones: “The Voice VOIP servers are monitored externally but Mutiny has consistently enabled us to identify any issue before it happens. Prevention is better than cure." “For instance, you don’t want to run out of network storage space. Mutiny enables you to take action before an issue becomes critical." “It’s enabled us to adopt a more proactive approach. We’re now much more efficient and cost effective." “We’re very pleased with it and we’re still not using it as much as we would like”. MUTINY COMMENT Dudley Moor-Radford, Mutiny’s Commercial Director says: “We are only too aware that cost implications are one of the most important factors in key IT decision making. At Mutiny we have taken this on board and have provided a simple network monitoring application." "Any business which deals with large numbers of customers or clients will quickly see the benefits of using the Mutiny appliance. The IT teams ability to work proactively is key to the overall success for any business." “Unplanned downtime can be very costly indeed and, put simply, Mutiny can stop this happening.”
